The enormous potential of renewable energies as endless, clean, reliable and profitable sources is particularly reflected in the use of solar energy.
There are three main types of solar cells, which are distinguished by the type of crystal used.
(1) Monocrystalline Solar Panel:
To produce a Monocrystalline silicon cell, absolute pure semiconducting material is necessary.
Monocrystalline rods are extracted from melted silicon and then sawed into thin plates.
This production process guarantees a relatively high level of efficiency than other types.
However, they are the most expensive to make and to buy. It's better in electricity production at
lower light conditions (Cloudy time) than other types of solar panels.
(2) Polycrystalline Solar Panel:
Polycrystalline Solar Panels are the most common type of PV solar panels at the market these days.
Looks like a shattered glass. Slightly less efficient then the Monocrystalline panels and less expensive.
This type of solar panel consists of multiple amounts of smaller silicon crystals.
The production of polycrystalline cells is more cost-efcient.
(3) Amorphous Solar Panel:
Amorphous solar panels consist of a thin-like film made from molten silicon that is spread directly across large plates of stainless steel or similar material. It's lower efficiency than the other two types, but the cheapest to produce. One advantage of amorphous solar panels over the other two is that they are shadow protected. Means that the solar panel continues to charge while part of the solar panel cells are in a shadow.
